2012 Augusta Futurity Fun Facts

The James Brown Arena is the site of the largest cutting competition with the richest purse on the Eastern coast.
The first Augusta cutting competition was held over two-and-a-half days (Feb. 7-9, 1980) in what then was called the Augusta-Richmond County Civic Center with 140 entries and a first-year purse of $64,489.
The 2011 Augusta Futurity saw entries from 17 states as well as Australia, Brazil and Canada. Georgia and South Carolina tied for having the most entries from a single state with each having 51. Texas placed second with 47.
The 2011 show also saw its second international champion when Filipe Resende Barbosa of San Paulo, Brazil, won the $100,000 Amateur 4-Year-Old category riding Calm Cool Smooth to a score of 214.0.
The total amount of prize money paid out since the Futurity's beginning is more than $17 million. The show has an annual economic impact of more than $10 million on the Augusta area.
Of the 32 champions of the prestigious Augusta Futurity Open event, 22 have been from Texas; five from Oklahoma and one each from Mississippi, Colorado, Virginia, Alabama and Tennessee.
