Four events kick off 28th Futurity

Time to shine up those cowboy boots again.
The 28th edition of the Augusta Futurity begins at 8 this morning with the start of the $100,000 Amateur 5/6-Year-old go-round at James Brown Arena.
Four events mark the opening day of the 10-day show, which runs through Jan. 27.
There are nine official events in the Augusta Futurity and four non-official competitions. One of those companion events is the wildly popular Extra Inning World Championship Bull Rid-ing, presented by USC Aiken. The bull riding begins at 8 p.m. Saturday. Gates will open two hours earlier.
The Wrangler Family Fun Fest will be held from 1:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. Sunday on Seventh Street, in front of James Brown Arena. The free event will feature a Western town, pony rides, a petting zoo, cloggers and the band Livingroom Legends. Also, for the first time, there will be a mechanical bull for spectators to ride.
As for the action inside the arena, the Augusta Futurity will close with finals the last five days of the show. The Classic Open and Non-Pro finals will begin at 6 p.m., Jan. 25. The Western Horseman Cup Open and Non-Pro finals start at 7 p.m., Jan. 26.
The show concludes with the Futurity Non-Pro and Open finals, Jan. 27. The night's opening ceremonies begin at 5:30.
