She seemed a little nervous while the finishing touches of her makeup were applied just moments before she was to step before the crowd.

Before making her entrance, she heard people question her upbringing. Was she good with children? Does she have any bad habits?

Then it was time.

Prettylittleadriana, a 5-year-old mare, entered the ring as the third horse being sold at the Augusta Futurity horse sale at the Augusta-Richmond County Civic Center on Saturday.

"She is a real good horse," said handler Benji Freely, from Lyons, Ga. "One of the prettiest we've ever had."

Sixty horses were sold for a total of $286,550, said Jo Anne Means, who worked the auction.

The bidding for Prettylittleadriana began at $2,000.

"We have a pretty little mare here," said Announcer Ben Emison, the owner of Ben Emison Sale Co. of Weatherford, Texas.

Within seconds came a bid of $4,000, followed by a shout of $5,000. All the while, Prettylittleadriana, whose mane was adorned with a pink ribbon, walked in a circle.

"She's worth more than what we're giving her for," Mr. Emison said.

Then a pledge of $6,000 came from the crowd, then another hand rose.

"Sold!," Auctioneer Col. Don Green shouted. "For $6,500."

With that, Prettylittleadriana made her way out of the ring and was introduced to her new owner.

"I got her because of her sire," buyer Gene Roberts, from Bowman, Ga., said

Mr. Emison called the animals up for sale, one of the best groups of horses the event has had in a while.

"Some of the best horses in the nation are here today," he said.
