HISTORY OF THE AUGUSTA FUTURITY

The sport of cutting was growing by leaps and bounds on the East Coast in the late 1970s, but it was difficult for many cutters east of the Mississippi to travel to Texas or Oklahoma for the major shows.

With this in mind, the Atlantic Coast Cutting Horse Association was formed in January 1979 and plans began for a show that would be convenient for cutters on the East Coast.

The Augusta Futurity was launched in February 1980 with 140 nominations and has grown beyond the greatest expectations of ACCHA members.

Top horses and their trainer-riders from the Southwest soon heard about the tight organization and added prize money at the Augusta Futurity - and soon headed that way, making Augusta one of their regular stops.

Interest in the new show in the heart of the Deep South prompted growth of the Augusta Futurity.
